Festival International De Jazz De Montreal - Diana Krall in a major free outdoor concert!

Festival International De Jazz De Montreal - Diana Krall in a major free outdoor concert!

Montreal, Wednesday, May 14, 2014 — Make no mistake: this 35th edition
of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, presented by TD in
collaboration with Rio Tinto Alcan, is going to be Big—really B-I-G! We
can already feel it at the box office, which is experiencing the largest
pre-sale in Festival history—so hurry up if you want tickets for your
favourite upcoming concerts! And among the special gifts the Festival
will unwrap this summer, this one is undoubtedly the most magnificent:
the very first ever major free outdoor show at this Festival by the
great lady of jazz, Diana Krall! Celebrating the 20th anniversary of her
love affair with the Festival, the incredible pianist and singer who has
conquered the planet will now offer a magical musical evening usually
reserved for the world’s most prestigious indoor venues: the final
performance of her Glad Rag Doll tour—coming full circle, since that
album concept was inspired by three concerts she performed right here
with us in 2011! Now that’s how you celebrate a 35th edition! The TD
Grand Event in collaboration with SiriusXM, June 29, 9:30 p.m., TD

Glad Rag Doll, the jazz star’s latest album, marks a change of course,
in which she takes on popular songs mainly dating from the 1920s and
1930s, evoking the little jazz clubs and smoky cabarets of the era… and
the B.C. native meets the challenge with panache—witness all the public
and critical acclaim! And yes, we can also expect some of the greatest
hits that made her a superstar…

This major free event adds yet another memorable chapter to the long
love story that unites Diana Krall and the Festival—she is, of course,
one of the 24 Legends of our event proudly displayed in the windows of
the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan. Indeed, the Festival has been
front and centre for every great moment in her career and enjoyed an
active role in her evolution, from her shy debut to the exquisite
assurance, poise and maturity we know today, from her very first
performance here in 1995—an incredible maiden musical flight!—to the
three wonderful solo concerts she delivered in Théâtre Maisonneuve in
2011, not to mention her Centre Bell show for our 25th anniversary. And
now, 20 editions further on, she offers this free gift to fans of the
Festival that first watched her soar!
