eBay Auction Results!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 24, 2004 - Vancouver – There was only one pair of tickets left for Diana Krall’s upcoming black-tie benefit performance, and Clifford Pollon of West Vancouver, BC paid $5,500 for the opportunity to attend. The gala tickets to An Evening with Diana Krall & Friends – Elton John and Elvis Costello (value $1,100 CND) and an exclusive photo opportunity with Diana Krall weren’t the only items up for auction. Valuable original artwork by artists Papetti and Gnocchi raised an additional $8,850, bringing the eBay proceeds to a grand total of $14,350. Auction proceeds will benefit the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation in support of Vancouver General Hospital’s Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplantation (L/BMT) Program.
“We are thrilled with the awareness the eBay auction has created for VGH’s L/BMT program and Diana’s fundraising efforts,” says VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation President and CEO, Ron Dumouchelle. “We are also extremely grateful for the generous support provided by the winning bidders of these exciting auction items.”
Next week’s benefit concert is a heartfelt expression of Diana’s thanks to the caregivers in the L/BMT Program. Diana’s mother Adella enjoyed six additional precious years of life following her 1996 diagnosis of multiple myeloma - an incurable form of cancer that affects the immune system. Since Adella passed away in May 2002, Diana and the Krall family have reaffirmed their commitment to the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, and their desire to help others living with multiple myeloma to have the best care possible and ultimately, hope for a brighter future.
Diana’s previous benefit concerts have collectively raised over $500,000 since 1998 – helping purchase critically needed medical equipment, support patient comfort needs and assist out-of-town L/BMT patients from across British Columbia fight leukemia and other blood-related diseases. Over the last ten years the L/BMT Program has become internationally recognized as a leading centre for treatment and clinical research.
The VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation is a registered charity established to raise funds for equipment, patient care programs, and medical research for Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital. The Foundation seeks to build partnerships with community organizations, corporations and people who share a commitment to quality health care in BC.
